Legends Nytetrayn

I've shown you the Nytetrayn of 21XX, and I've shown you the Nytetrayn of the world of Battle Network. Now it's time for Legends.

This is the original sketch, colored by computer, that I created for my character in a freeform Mega Man Legends RPG I played with some friends and wrote some stories with. I fondly remember those times.

The Legends/X connection had yet to be established when we began, and I don't think Battle Network or MMZero had begun yet, much less ZX or Star Force, so his own history was left largely blank until either a) a connection was confirmed or b) I came up with something else.

Fortunately, "a" happened first, and I'm rather glad. But the details from that may come at another time.

So, he looks a lot like MegaMan in some ways, doesn't he? I tried to make subtle changes to the hairstyle and the shape of his face (rounder and less pointy, if memory serves). But that's not what leads to a direct comparison, is it?

If anything, it's the armor. I tried to make some subtle changes there, too, but I deliberately did not try to venture too far. Storywise, my character and his partner, Grim (whose pic I'll post later) were not really what you would call "well-to-do."

To give you an idea, they didn't even have an airship; just a second-rate apartment off on an island named "Monroe."

As for the armor itself? Well, this seemed to be the standard type which MegaMan buys in the games when he's upgrading; that is, it all looks the same. So I stuck close to it, as he wouldn't be able to afford something highly-customized.

There are a few distinct features, though. The round panels on the top of the shoulders display the Dragon Knight insignia (though you can't see them from this angle). And hidden in the squarish parts on the back of his hands are lock picks.

One thing Grim and Nytetrayn lacked was a spotter; I had plans for that, but more on that later. Without an airship or a spotter, I had it so that Nyte would carry the weapon kits he found in ruins with some other supplies in his backpack (including a roll-up sleeping bag). I think he was going to have a belt, too, but I think I didn't get to incorporate that here, and might have forgotten about it eventually.

So the plus side is that Nytetrayn wouldn't have to leave a ruin to re-equip himself. The downside is that he kind of had to do it out in the open, leaving him and his gear vulnerable if Grim wasn't able to cover.

Nytetrayn is a bit of a tinkerer; mechanically-inclined, you could say, so putting stuff together doesn't take too long. Not shown here is what he did for his Nyte-Buster; originally a standard Buster, he upgraded it so it could have three modes based on the energy output: a Buster cannon, a beam saber arm, and a shield.

It was also a little bigger than shown here, though I think the size is accurate for MegaMan; we didn't know of the whole appendage-removal/replacement thing for Carbons at the time, though.

He was also supposed to have a helmet with a few pieces of equipment built into it, but I could never find a design I liked. It would have been one of those unfolding-type deals, too.

One other item he had (not shown) was this sort of ball that would bounce around tunnels and rooms, activating traps before returning.

The color scheme was meant to evoke the original 21XX Nytetrayn, with black and gold. However, the armor is bereft of gold, since I wanted him to be a stealthy "Shadow Digger." His helmet would conceal his hair, which would maintain the gold. And since I didn't want the hair and eyes to blend, I went with green for the latter-- also the color of 21XX's when he'd use his special optic scanners.

So, that's my long-winded spiel about Legends Nytetrayn, who-- like the others-- I've sadly not been able to use in years, and whose story has yet to be completed (I know where I wanted to go with it, it just never got there).
