So, as you might have heard, Rockman Online is probablycancelled. It's not official, but let's face it, the writing has appeared to be on the wall for some time now.
This disappoints me for a few reasons. For one, much of my fun with Mega Man has been through role playing online with friends, and the chance to do that in an actual game sounded great to me. Of course, there is also the fact that it was only slated for Korea, but who knows? Things can change, things can happen.
The other reason was that I felt like I would be able to semi-canonize one of my first (and lamest) fan characters.
The idea for Sunfire came to me in a dream (and I don't often dream about games, so...), one which probably came after spending too much time looking at the rainbow of Rockman X model kits being advertised in the back of GameFan magazine.
So, I fleshed him out a little. At the time, MH characters were pretty scarce, and we weren't really privy to the whole "X is so special that no one can understand what makes him tick" bit just yet. So my idea was "X is so effective at not doing things like dying while popping wheelies on bikes (sorry, GBD), why don't we make more like him?"
Funny... that's more or less what Rockman Online would have done, too, with Zero and Duo added for good measure.
Well, that said, I couldn't wait and made this from the official art. Sadly, it looks like he'll never come to truly be any more than this.
As for the original iteration, I soon became disgusted with myself and tried to change him into something less derivative, and eventually scrapped him altogether. But I won't lie; the idea of Rockman Online made me happy to bring him back.
As for my next character? Well, besides a Transformer-sized Reploid version of Turbo man who could transport his teammates, I think my next original character was a guy who would eventually become well known as "Nytetrayn" in the world of 21XX...
